Cuaich Circuit

Distance: 23.9km

Ascent: 356m

Time: 1.5 - 2.5 hours

Difficulty: Moderate

Overview

Cuaich Circuit is a mainly off road route, which heads from Cuaich on the A9 into the middle of the Phoines grouse moor on a well maintained land rover track.  Beyond the Loch Cuaich dam the track deteriorates with lots of puddle to navigate on the undulating track along the loch side.  From the head of the loch the track rises steeply and steadily for 130m to reach a high point at 530m with expansive views on the Spey Valley to the Monadhliath mountains.  The descent on a continuation of the land rover track to Phoines Lodge is fast with sweeping corners and occasional rougher sections.  The return to the Crubenbeg from Phoines Lodge along the valley side is undulating but straightforward.
